Not-So-Crude death rates and Stage Five of the Epidemiological Transition

Crude death rates (CDR) only tell us raw numbers of deaths.  Here's an infographic (god I love these!) they shows a breakout of HOW and WHY people died.  Note that there's some room for debate here- but overall it's an interesting breakout.

Here's an interactive map showing preventable outbreaks of diseases that have occurred as a result of global transportation patterns and the mixing of poor populations who lack vaccinations with rich populations where a minority of the population is not vaccinated, sometimes for ideological reasons.
